Welcome

The UIC (International Union of Rail Companies - www.uic.asso.fr), in conjunction with the French Ministry of Transport, SNCF, the French train operator and RFF, the Infrastructure Manager, are pleased to invite you to the 10th World Symposium on safety at the road/rail interface, to be held in Paris, from the 24th – 26th June 2008.

A one-day workshop highlighting the conclusions of the EU-funded SELCAT project (www.levelcrossing.net) will be held in conjunction with the symposium on 23rd June 2008. There will be the opportunity to join a technical visit on 27th June.

Building on the success of the previous Level Crossing Symposium’s held in the USA, Australia, the UK and Canada, the 10th Symposium will be only the 2nd time that a European venue has hosted the event. The symposium provides an exciting and stimulating platform from which to:

  • discuss advances in level crossing technology and operation
  • promote best practice in both level crossing risks and trespass prevention
  • develop international cooperation
  • share international dialogue on how we should collectively be dealing with safety at the road/rail interface.

There will be an interesting technical programme and a variety of speakers who will provide expert views on the key issues surrounding management of the risks associated with the road/rail interface and the prevention of trespass.

We will present a varied program of presenters who will share their ideas on key issues such as managing the road/rail interface, technical developments, human behaviour, suicide prevention, law enforcement, education programmes all related to the road/rail interface and reducing the instances of trespass on the railway.

Not only will this event provide a global networking opportunity, it will also be accompanied by an exhibition of products and services that will permit delegates to experience, first hand, some of the developments in the field of level crossing and trespass prevention technology.

As one of the major world capitals, Paris (www.parisinfo.com) has excellent travel connections from all parts of the world (www.paris-cdg.com) as well as direct and fast high speed train connections (www.sncf.fr) to many European countries. Rich in history and boasting some of the finest cuisine in the world, Paris is an ideal location for the 10th World Symposium.

If you can only attend one conference in 2008, this is the one for you. The answer and solutions to handling issues at the road/rail interface and in respect to trespass prevention will be at your fingertips. Book the dates now and plan now to join us in Paris in June 2008. I look forward to seeing you in Paris.
